Training By SoftShow

Brian Retallick has considerable teaching experience:

• Mathematics and Computers in secondary schools for 10 years
• Computer Science in TAFE for 2 years
• Information Technology at La Trobe University, Bendigo for 21 years

This makes him the ideal person to conduct training for your Show Society or other organisation.

AgShow Training Workshop at Longerenong College:

Brian conducted an AgShow Training Workshop for members of the Wimmera Agricultural Societies Association organised by Judith Bysouth of Natimuk A&P Society Inc.

The format of the training was:

• About a half hour talk by Brian where the features and uses of AgShow were outlined.
• Hands-on laboratory work where the participants worked through a small exercise using a sample show data file. Brian answered queries on an individual and, where required, a group basis.
• The exercises demonstrated to the participants how Agshow can help with most of the activities involved in organising and running an Agricultural Show.
• Demonstration by Brian to show the advanced features of AgShow.
• Discussion of the requirements for creating a new show schedule.
• Participants with their own show schedules from the previous year mapped out the content of their schedule for entering into AgShow, with Brian available to help with any queries.
• Participants created a new show data file and began to enter their own schedule.

Longerenong College was an ideal venue as the AgShow Demonstration Program was installed on each computer on the network so that each user could have access to the program. Some participants had their own laptops and copies of the Agshow Demonstration Program was available for them to install.

Greg is intent on setting up the schedule for Dimboola A&P Society with Donna looking on.

How Can Training be Organised?

Training can be organised in any way a Show Society wishes:

• Brian can visit a Show Society for one-on-one tuition
• A more cost effective way is to organise a workshop for a number of Show Societies, similar to the Longerenong workshop
• The Secretary of a Show Society can visit Brian in Bendigo for personal tuition, also cost effective
